The Comité Maritime International (CMI) has been revising the rules on general average for quite some time now. Switzerland is represented in this project by our member Mr. Andreas Bach.

Despite multiple attempts from various national maritime law associations the revisions have been rather modest so far. The International Working Group (IMG) is currently discussing, processing and preparing the revisions as agenda item for the CMI conference in New York (May 2016).

The draft convention on «Recognition of Foreign Judicial Sales of Ships» was adopted on the occasion of the Hamburg Conference 2014. It is now time to transfer the convention into the intergovernmental organizations, in which the instrument shall be developed further into a fully-fledged international convention. Negotiations with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) are currently ongoing to put the convention on its agenda.

In the first half of 2016 the Swiss Maritime Law Association will organize an special event with regard to this important draft convention
